Throwback Thursday:The Maxi Dress

My mom loves to remind me, as if I don't already realize, that the trends we see now are never new, but constantly reinvented.   And in an effort to further her point, she went to the attic and brought out one of her favorite maxi dresses from the 70s.  We decided that it would be fun to share her favorite and my favorite maxi dress.  Since my mom is really shy she remained behind the camera while I attempted to get into a dress that fit her at her smallest - a size 4 by the standards in the 70s.  Well, here I am rocking my mom's maxi dress and my maxi dress.

I adore my dress because it can be worn as a halter or as a tube dress.  I also really love the colors because they are so bright and vibrant.  I was also surprised that I even liked this dress because the fabric is a sort of jersey material that I tend to shy away from.

My mom's dress is great too. The fabric is very light, which is perfect for those hazy, hot and humid days. My favorite part of the dress is, of course, that it can be worn off the shoulder.  I can totally imagine my mom in this outfit with her afro and platforms at a backyard BBQ with my aunt.

Which dress do you like better?

  1. I love this idea. How fun to be able to explore fashion trends with your mom. You look great in both dresses. It's funny that you can wear the '70s dress now.

    Thanks for sharing.

    1. Me too. My mom's dress was so light and perfect for the summer. But my dress was so comfy and I would throw it on whenever I was in a rush and always knew I looked great.
